Recently in february 1998 the Lonely planet has published a guide about Goa, updated in September 2000
This last edition has very good information on Goa, and very accurates figures.
Overall, we can notice the engagement of Lonely planet against pollution and tourism destruction, but as they point out the major problems
gathered by the massive arrival of westeners nowadays, they are not kind towards the original westeners that have made Goa what it is today
they depict the Goa trance has a massive computerized and hypnotic music denying all kind of creativity.
Besides parties are showed responsible of many troubles in Goa, this vision is unfair, since Goa was really develloped by the partygoers,
all this crowd feed the local tourism and never for instance go to five stars hotels and hotels that destroy the environment.
The guide of lonely planet makes me think that it has been written by a western mind, it didn't really explore all the aspect of the
reality that is much more complex.
By the way the guide still has up to date informations that are essentials, but definitly if you are a party lover,
i would rather say that you should ignore all the information displayed there
about parties...
